OnexOne (Nate/Daina)

"It's gotta be...this one, right?" a young girl with long, dark-brown hair and silver eyes muttered to herself as she stood in front of the home she thought she'd never see: her father's home. Her mother had given her an address and told her 'go find him'. She wasn't sure just what lay beyond the door, or what she was meant to expect. Taking a deep breath, she walked up and knocked on the door.

Nate was reading a map he had when he used to treasure hunt. He then heard the knock on the door and he turned his attention to the door. He then got up from the couch and he went to the door and answered.

"Hi, can I help you...miss." he said, looking at the girl on the other side of the door.

Riley had to hold back a gasp when she saw him - she knew now what her mother meant when she said 'you look so much like your father'.

"Hi, um - this is the residence of Nathan Drake, right?" she asked, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear "I, uh, have a message for you - I guess you could say. Can I come in?"

He looked at her and he wasn't sure if he was looking in a mirror or this girl just happens to look like him. He studied her for a few minutes and then nodded and let her in. He watched her walk in and he noticed she had a certain way about her...he just couldn't put his finger on it.

"Please tell me your name first and then tell me your message and who it is from." He told her.

"My name's Riley. Riley Harper. My message..." she took a deep breath, trying to steady herself "my message is from a woman named Daina. She's my mother."

He just stared at her in disbelief. He hasn't heard that name in years and he didn't know that she had moved on and made a baby with someone else. He was shocked but...yet he wanted to know more.

"I see...well...I'm glad to know she moved on." he said, more coldly then he should have.

"She didn't!" she about yelled, having to calm herself mid-sentence "That's...why she sent me to find you. I'm...YOUR daughter."

He looked at her in shock. He couldn't believe the words that came out of her mouth. How could she be HIS daughter? He hasn't seen Diana in over 16 or 17 years. He tried to put the pieces together but he just couldn't for an odd reason.

"You...you can't be...I mean...she never told me..." he was lost in thought mostly.

"She never told you because you left before she could. Listen, I don't care if you believe me or not, I just...she told me to come find you. She's...really sick. And she wants to see you so she can talk to you about - I guess - a lot of stuff. She can't reach you through phone, or mail, so I was her last option."

He looked at her, utterly shocked and he didn't know what to do at this point. He thought about her and he really wondered how sick she really was. He just looked at her and he had so many questions...he needed to start with a basic.

"How sick are we talking here?"

"Sick enough. She's...been sick for a long time, but it's been getting worse. She just wants to see you, so...if you'll trust me, I'll take you to where we're living. It's honestly not that far from here..."

He wasn't sure that he could do this...after all these years. He felt like a piece of shit and he didn't know weather to trust her or if it was a good idea to go.

He didn't have much of an option. He nodded his head and sighed, "Fine. I'll go with you..."

She breathed a sigh of relief when he agreed to go with her "Okay, good. I didn't wanna have to drag you there unconscious or something..." it was a joke, but it almost didn't sound like one.

"I wish I had known you were so close..." she said as they began to walk "it would have made growing up a lot easier."

"I 'm...sorry I mean...I don't know what to tell you because...well my words mean nothing now since you are...well a teenager and somewhat almost an adult." Nate said.

He felt bad...but he wished that Diana had made more of an effort...he had to leave for her sake...but he didn't want to hurt her...and if he knew that she was pregnant...he would have stayed.

"I'm seventeen, if that helps. And I know you still don't believe I'm your daughter, so..." she shrugged, shoving her hands in her pockets.

"All I care about is making my mom happy. And if seeing you will do that, then..."

(Her name is Daina. DAINA. xD)

He nodded and sighed, "It might not be so bad seeing your mother again...you know?"

He had no idea as to why he was talking to her like they had a relationship. He sighed and just shook his head.

"Yeah." she replied, not even bothering to look at him as they made their way. It was about an hour worth of walking, but before long they reached the house she and her mother shared.

"Mom!" Riley called as she entered the front door into her home, making sure Nate followed her in "I'm back! And...I brought someone."

After waiting a couple of seconds, she gestured for him to follow her. She led him through the hallway down to a room at the very end, the door standing ajar to reveal a woman sitting on the edge of a bed. She looked very thin and frail, but her brown hair touched with some grey was stilled pinned into a messy bun at the back of her head, and she was dressed well enough in a tanktop and long skirt. She looked up at the two as they came into the room, her sun-freckled face lighting up as she saw her daughter - and then her eyes widening as she saw the man behind her.

He just looked at her, in shock. The woman who was always the strongest woman he knew...was sitting in front of him...fragile and not a single witty come back.

He couldn't believe his eyes and he didn't know what to say...all he could at this moment was her name.

"Daina..."

She looked like she wanted to go towards him, to embrace him, to make up for all the lost years - but she didn't. Instead, she simply stared at him for a moment and then her face twisted into a smirk it hadn't had in years.

"Look what the cat dragged in."

He rubbed the back of his head and smirked slightly. He was glad she at least had some of her spirt in her...yet it wasn't at all like it had been when they were...dating if that was okay to say at the time.

"Hey...uhm...how...are you?" he was at a loss for words.

"Surprised, mostly. When I sent Riley out I didn't know if she was going find you, or even if she did that you'd agree to come back with her. Yet here you are..." she tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear, similar to what Riley had done earlier. She didn't dare complain about how tired she was or about how much everything hurt - Nate probably wouldn't understand or care.

Riley sat next to her mother and looked back and forth between the two of them.

"Listen...Daina...If I would have known you were..." he just stopped and sighed.

"I know it means nothing now...but...I really am sorry...and I just...I don't know if my words would even make you feel any better...about anything at all."

She shook her head "You didn't know, you couldn't have. We were..." she glanced away and smiled "you left the night after. I told you it was okay. I didn't find out until you were long gone and out of contact. But...you know who did find out?"

"Grandpa Sully, yeah?" Riley asked, not even giving Nate a chance to guess.

Daina laughed "Yep."

He sighed. Of course Sully would know she was prgenant...but why in hell didn't he tell him? He looked at her and his daughter. Damn.. they both were so much alike it was kinda scary...

"He tried to tell you, y'know. 'Can't reach the damn kid.' is what he'd say a lot - it was cute, I think he was irritated with you for leaving me or something. I don't know. He was there when she was born, ya know that? First one in the room to visit me and her after. I said to him 'I know Nate would want you to be her grandfather just as much as I do' and of course he said yes."

Riley grinned, looking at her mom "I know you regretted it a little later, like that time you caught him trying to teach me how to lift strangers' wallets."

Daina shrugged "Eh. Old habits die hard, I guess."
