OnexOne (Naomi/Sebastian)

"Of course I am, mistress.  I do wish you'd stop being so frantic and just enjoy yourself." he reached out and put a hand on her shoulder, nodding his head.  This was her party and she deserved to have a good time just as much as anyone.

"I'm a grown man who can take care of myself.  Besides, as your butler it's my job to make sure that you're alright."

She smiled at him, "That's alright...I want to make sure that you enjoy yourself...you deserve to have fun at this party instead of catering to everyone here."

She took his hand and handed him a drink, "There...haha...drink up. Oh man...how many have I had?"

"Far too many, perhaps." he smiled mildly "Should you choose to drink anymore I'm afraid I may have to forcibly stop you-you don't want to go getting intoxicated and make a fool out of yourself in front of all these high-society...well, you know."

She sighed and put the drink down, looking up at him, "You must think I'm such a...disgrace."

She sighed and put her hand to her head.

Sebastian paused for a moment at the entrance to the balcony, opting to lean against the unopened side of the french doors and listen to what she was saying to herself.

She sighed and looked out to the lake only feet away from the mansion.

"I haven't done anything to make them proud...I have just fooled around...and maybe fell in love."

(Been a few months)

Though it might be quite an issue that he was caught listening to her, he knew he had to do something to pull her out of her wallowing.

"That isn't true, you know." he stepped out onto the balcony "You've led the family business quite brilliantly."

She looked up at him and gasped, backing up slightly, "I'm sorry...I shouldn't be acting like a child...I just felt really...lost. And I didn't mean to wallow in it and play the pity game. I just needed to vent."

She held his hand and looked at him, "But you have saved me...I don't know how any...human could do so...but you did...and I really thank you for that."

Though his eyes didn't waver from her as she said 'human', there was a tiny bit of him that quivered inside. How long was he going to keep that secret from her?

"I haven't done anything. You saved yourself long before I could do anything."

She looked at him and smiled, "Maybe just a little bit...but you coming into my life at the exact moment I needed you...that was amazing. It was almost as if...you knew."

She was catching on...but she didn't want to make him uncomfortable and blow it. She leaned up and kissed his cheek.

"I...uhm...have something for you...it's inside. The maid is holding it for me." she blushed.

"Yes, I suppose you could say that I did." he wondered if she was, perhaps, beginning to catch on to his secret.

"Hm? Ah, you didn't have to get anything for me-even if it is Christmas."

she smiled and at that moment, the maid came over to her and handed her the present. She took it from her and handed it to Sebastian. She kissed his cheek again and waited for him to open it.

"Merry Christmas, Sebastian." she said.

He took the gift and opened it. Flipping through the pages, he smiled "Well, this is certainly the most unique gift I've ever recieved." he didn't mention that it was, in fact, the only gift he'd ever recieved "Thank you."

She smiled and nodded at him, "Now...I have but one gift I want from you...please...it is the ONLy one I want."

She bit her lip and hoped that he didn't decline it at all. She held his hand and got closer to him.

When she got closer to him, he tensed. What could she possibly want out of him? Certainly, there were the usual things women wanted-money, clothes, jewelry and sex...but this was something different. He could tell by the way she looked at him that this question held much more weight.

She looked at him and took a deep breath. She needed to know...he was way too perfect to be a normal human. She bit her lip and took both his hands.

"I'm not afraid of you...but I know that you are too amazing to be a human...Sebastian, tell me...what are you?" she asked, waiting for the answer...if he gave it to her.

No emotion crossed Sebastian's face "Well, who's truly human?" was his response "If certain points of history are to be believed, we are crossed with gods, demons and even the odd animal. No-one is a clean human. No-one can be..."

Just as he finished speaking, inside the music turned from an old-fashioned tune into a waltz. Looking down at Naomi for a moment, Sebastian squeezed her hand and then pulled her inside so that they could dance.

She sighed and dropped it, dancing with him. She wouldn't get a straight answer from him...maybe not now anyway. She just danced, not saying anymore or anything else to him. She had to figure this out.

After the waltz had ended, he led her off the dance floor and over to the refreshments table. "Can I get you something to drink, madam?"

She shook her head, "No, thanks. I'm fine."

She looked to the floor and saw her aunts and uncles dancing. She sighed and just leaned on the wall, trying to figure out how to get him to spill the goods...but she should have known better...Sebastian was too smart for that.

"Ah, but leaving a lady stranded without a drink is no good at all." so, regardless of her wishes, he went to the refreshment table and got her a glass of wine. Walking back over, he handed it to her "There we are, just incase you do happen to get thirsty."

She sighed and looked at the wine and just wished it around in the glass. She didn't want to drop the question...but she didn't want him to get mad or annoyed with her either.

She handed him the glass and sighed, "I think the festivities are over for tonight. So I'm going to retire to my room."

Sebastian knew she was probably quite annoyed with him for not answering her question, but it had to be this way-it was safer for her.

"If it would please you, mistress." he responded, taking the glass.

She had to pretend she was not upset, but she was slightly, VERY slightly. She kissed him once and then went up the stairs to her room and closed the door.

"He's hiding something...why won't he tell me? What is he afraid of...if anything." she sighed.

She got her dress off and put her nightgown on and got in her bed. She was deep in thought now...

"Tea, hm? Tea won't help you get to sleep, mistress." he closed his book, setting it on his bed as he stood up "Come down to the kitchen with me and I'll make you something that will help you sleep."
